MICRO-NEEDLING
Medical micro-needling is rapidly gaining popularity to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, hyper pigmentation, and improve overall skin tone and texture. Utilizing a handheld device with sterile disposable needle tips, each tip contains 12 “micro” surgical-grade stainless steel needles to pierce the skin at very specific therapeutic depths. The thousands of tiny needle pricks stimulate collagen and elastin production, while also creating receptor sites which easily absorb serums.
Who Cannot Micro-needle?
Though most people can be treated very successfully with Micro Needling, there are those who have pre-existing conditions which keep them from being candidates for this service. The following issues are contraindicated for the Micro Needling Procedure: Hemophilia Skin diseases Eczema Allergies Autoimmune diseases History of cold sores History of any Cancer Tendency to keloid.
Does IT HURT?
A medical grade numbing is applied before the treatment for little to no pain. The sensation will feel somewhat prickly, but not very uncomfortable due to the numbing cream.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Numbing time is about 30 minutes, and the Micro Needling process itself usually takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on skin thickness and target issues. So, the average total treatment time for Micro Needling is about one hour.
WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME?
Downtime after Micro-needling is minimal, but you can expect to have several days of pink skin and some light sensitivity. There will most likely be pinpoint bleeding during the treatment, which will stop almost immediately. The skin tends to take on a “bronzed” appearance for several days post treatment. Then this bronzed outer layer of skin will begin to flake off, revealing a fresh and glowing new you underneath. It is recommended that you stay away from the sun and avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks following treatment. Additionally, it is recommended that hot showers, baths, hot-tubs and saunas are avoided for about two weeks after Micro-needling as well.
HOw OFTEN SHOULD I GET MICRO-NEEDLING?
It is recommended that treatments are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. It is important that there is complete healing before having another session. As the Micro Needling procedure begins to stimulate collagen and elastin production, it becomes very important to maintain the momentum with regular treatments. Sticking with a set schedule of appointments yields the fastest and most dramatic results.
Micro-needling treatments are usually completed in a series for best results, depending on what condition the skin is in when treatments are begun. Patients find that a series of 6 or possibly 10 are needed to see truly dramatic changes in the complexion. Most who are hoping to tighten and tone their skin will be on track with 6 treatments. Those who are seeking to diminish the depth of acne scarring generally require a minimum of 8-10 sessions.
